Rules for receiving PIS/Pasep 2023

The PIS/PASEP payment schedule, which had been postponed for one year, will finally be implemented in 2023, starting on February 15th and ending on December 28th. The salary allowances to be released will correspond to the services formally provided in the year 2021. Around 23.6 million workers should receive salary allowances in the total amount of R$ 24.4 billion.

The PIS payment is based on the employee's date of birth and the PASEP, on the last digit of the program enrollment number. However, it is important to note that the PIS and PASEP programs are different, the PIS is aimed at private sector workers and is managed by Caixa Econômica, while the PASEP is aimed at public servants and is managed by Banco do Brasil (BB).

What are the PIS/PASEP rules?

To receive the PIS/PASEP, the employee must prove the right to the salary bonus in the base year (in this case, 2022). Anyway, the rules for eligibility have not changed in recent years. Therefore, the following criteria must be met:

– Be enrolled in the PIS/PASEP program for at least five years.

– Worked or did not work for more than 30 consecutive days with a formal contract.

– Have earned up to two minimum wages.

– Ensure that work data is duly informed and updated in the Annual Social Information List (Rais).

Many focus only on the fact that they worked during the months of the reference year, but forget that it is necessary to have at least five years of formal employment, whether continuous or not. Otherwise, the PIS/PASEP will not be released.

Employees should also be aware of the five-year standard period for enrolling in the PIS/PASEP. The employee is entitled to the first salary bonus only after this deadline, even if he has already fulfilled all the other requirements.

Values for 2023

The minimum wage is the minimum amount that a worker can earn in the country. It serves as the basis for evaluating various social security benefits, unemployment insurance and PIS/PASEP 2023. For PIS/PASEP 2023, the minimum wage is equivalent to the ceiling of the salary bonus, which is the maximum amount that the worker can receive. This benefit is paid once a year as a kind of reward to employees who have had a formal contract in recent months.

However, PIS/PASEP 2023 is a gradual and cumulative allowance. A fixed amount is accounted for each month of the signed portfolio. In the year 2024, for example, you will receive a bonus of R$ 109 for every 30 days of formal work.

After 12 months of formal employment, workers can receive R$ 1,320 from PIS/PASEP 2023. This will be the biggest change for the worker's pocket. The amount is paid separately by Caixa Econômica Federal (CEF) and Banco do Brasil (BB).
